Amanda after Easy A

Entertainment Weekly's Popwatch blog posted a fantastic article in which they hope Amanda chooses to not retire. Amid the great reviews she's gotten from Easy A, (nearly all of them are positive), the blog author hopes Amanda sticks around because she shows more promise than other performers her age.

I hope [deleting her Twitter] doesn’t mean that she’s un-un-retired. I think that would be a shame.

Especially in this weekend of Yet Another Disappointing Headline Concerning Lindsay Lohan, I find myself respecting the way Bynes has conducted her transition from child star to young adult: no scandals, no arrests, no embarrassing boyfriend drama, just the one Maxim cover (on which she’s practically swaddled in fabric) and a very select smattering of well-played parts. I’m fairly certain she still lives with her parents, which I find adorable. And while it is her right to decide what to do with her own future — especially after nearly two decades of the Hollywood grind life on screen [better, readers? - WP] — I wish she wouldn’t give up on making people laugh. We’ve got waaaaay too many generic ingenues around here already.

Check out the rest of the article here, and don't forget to see Easy A in theaters!

I loved Easy A, I got to see it early at a special screening. fantastic film, I honestly did not expect it to be as entertaining as it was. I have directed some films in college and have a decent idea on how to deal with actress’, Defiantly would put amanda in more adult romantic comedies, and some dramatic films. But never horror or thriller- I feel that sort of genre would not fit her particular bright acting style and would do more damage to her career than good. perhaps a new network television show, something more like friends’ or a family sitcom of sorts. Given time, and the right stepping stone roles, I think she could become a very well known -perhaps award winning- dramatic actress. Lets hope she sticks with it.

Well, I kind of disagree (slightly) with some of the assertions of the article, but I did notice something interesting:

There was a distinct *lack* of 'OMG, SHE WAS CRAZY ON TWITTER! SHE GOT FAT! SHE'S NOT A GOOD ROLE MODEL!'-type comments. Compare this to when she was on twitter (and out of the public eye, with very sporadic public appearances...which was key to how she was perceived, I think). I think Will Gluck was spot on with his comments re: twitter. There's a real danger to *only* doing things online; it influences how people perceive you in real-life. Heck, just look at Perez Hilton, a guy who seems to be pretty nice in real life, but who *openly* *proudly* proclaims his website as 'The Most Hated Site in Hollywood!'

Comments when Amanda was on twitter would be pretty uniformly negative, with the occasional supporter trying vainly to defend her. The comments all seemed to be pretty genuine and heartfelt. One person made a point of saying how it's actually pretty common to do some pretty-heavy soul-searching at her age. Heck, I was like that! And I can only imagine how it must be for her, to be constantly in the public eye.

Reading the comments reminded me of how *very* proud I am to be an admirer of Ms. Amanda Laura Bynes!

Thank you guys so much for your comments. I agree, I think Amanda is truly soul searching right now and trying to figure out how to be the best person she can be in her career and personal life. I'm glad she got whatever she needed to get out at the time on Twitter, instead of going to drugs and alcohol like many her age. And let's face it, she could rake in easy money doing the same kinds of movies she's been doing, but obviously for her, her happiness does not depend on a starring role or big time paycheck.

I am sure its hard to make that transition as a child actress. But she's done so well. Maybe she's just looking for more projects that are worthy of her.
